JOB OVERVIEW

The Communications Manager plays a crucial role in shaping the communications strategy for ITK. Reporting directly to the Director of Communications, this position involves anticipating and addressing the communication needs of the organization. The Manager will work collaboratively with various teams to ensure that the strategic communications align with ITK's goals.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and implement communication plans tailored to specific projects, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives.
  • Oversee the administrative functions of the communications team, ensuring effective reporting and resource allocation.
  • Support ITK's policy initiatives and advocacy efforts through strategic communication efforts.
  • Ensure that all corporate communication strategies meet the requirements of ITK's Executive and Board of Directors.

PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT

  • Assist in the creation of reports, strategies, and publications, including design and layout, infographics, and translation.
  • Manage social media content, ensuring that media lines and FAQs are current and relevant.
  • Draft news releases, background documents, and promotional materials.
  • Plan and recommend events, ensuring effective communication throughout.
  • Contribute content for the Annual Report, Newsletter, and Magazine.
  • Provide IT support related to communications, including audio-visual needs and website management.

KEY CONTACTS

  • Internal: Collaborate with the Communications Director, Corporate Services, and various departmental managers.
  • External: Engage with Inuit regions, government representatives, advertisers, and contractors such as designers and translators.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Knowledge and Skills: Understanding of Inuit regions and political structures, budget management, content creation, and photography.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years in an Indigenous organization or advocacy role, with at least 2 years in a managerial capacity.
  • Education: Degree in Communications, Political Science, Indigenous Studies, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
