JOB OVERVIEW

The Manager of Communications plays a pivotal role in shaping the communication strategies of ITK. Reporting directly to the Director of Communications, this position requires foresight, planning, and execution of communication initiatives that align with the organization's goals. The Manager is expected to collaborate seamlessly with various teams to enhance the strategic communication efforts of ITK.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The individual in this role will oversee the development of essential communication materials, ensuring they meet the evolving needs of ITK. Responsibilities include:

  • Maintaining up-to-date media lines and FAQs.
  • Creating and managing social media content.
  • Planning and executing events and announcements.
  • Providing publication support, including translation, layout, and design.
  • Generating engaging content and preparing presentations.
  • Assisting with conferences and meetings.
  • Conceptualizing promotional items and managing other related tasks.

MANAGEMENT AND PROJECT OVERSIGHT

  • Collaborating with teams across ITK to develop tailored communication plans for specific projects.
  • Administering the communications team’s reporting requirements.
  • Supporting policy advancement and advocacy through effective communication strategies.
  • Aligning corporate communication needs with the priorities of ITK's Executive and Board of Directors.

PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT AND CONTENT CREATION

  • Assisting in the design and layout of reports, strategies, and publications.
  • Updating social media and web content to ensure relevance.
  • Drafting news releases, background information, and advertisements.
  • Creating promotional materials and planning events.
  • Contributing content for the Annual Report, Newsletter, and Magazine.
  • Providing IT support related to communications, including audio-visual and website development.

QUALIFICATIONS

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

  • Understanding of Inuit regions, history, and political structures.
  • Experience managing budgets effectively.
  • Proficient in writing and content creation.
  • Basic photography skills.
  • Adaptability to changing environments.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills, primarily in English; proficiency in Inuktitut and/or French is an asset.

EXPERIENCE

  • A minimum of 5 years working with Inuit or Indigenous organizations.
  • At least 5 years in a political or advocacy context.
  • 2 years of experience in a managerial role or equivalent.

EDUCATION

  • A degree in Political Science, Communications, Journalism, Indigenous Studies, Public Affairs, or a related field, or
  • A combination of education and experience that demonstrates the required skills and knowledge for successful performance.
