Job Summary

The Ottawa Catholic School Board is seeking a dedicated Health and Safety Officer to enhance our safety programs and ensure a secure working environment across our schools and administrative offices.

Key Responsibilities
  • Act as a liaison with Principals, Managers, and other departments to foster a positive safety culture within the Board.
  • Develop, implement, deliver, and evaluate health and safety training programs.
  • Coordinate logistics for health and safety sessions, including scheduling trainers and managing attendance reports.
  • Oversee the management of the training database, including data entry, research, and creating reports.
  • Manage the Vector online training system and the AED program.
  • Assist in the ongoing review of risk assessments, safe work practices, policies, and procedures.
  • Investigate incidents and analyze near misses to improve safety measures.
  • Act as a resource for the health and safety committee, offering legislative interpretation and technical advice.
  • Respond to inquiries from students, staff, parents, and community members regarding safety concerns.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable legislation, including record keeping and training development.
Requirements
  • Post-secondary education in Occupational Health and Safety or a related field.
  • Minimum 3 years of related experience in a similar role, preferably within a large, multi-site, unionized environment.
  • Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC) and Standard First Aid/CPR certification.
  • Thorough knowledge of health and safety practices, applicable statutes, and regulations.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and customer service skills.
  • Proficiency in Google Suite and other relevant software.
  • Advanced analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • CHRP/CPHR designation.
  • The Canadian First Aid and CPR/AED Instructor Certificate.
  • Experience conducting Workplace Violence investigations.
  • Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) or Canadian Registered Safety Technician (CRST) designation.
  • Experience with health and safety-specific software.
