We are seeking a proactive and knowledgeable Health and Safety (HSE) Specialist to join our team. The ideal candidate will be a champion of our safety culture, dedicated to reducing risks and promoting a safe working environment across our projects. This role is crucial in ensuring our employees are educated, compliant, and fully equipped to meet and exceed our HSE standards.
OVERVIEW OF RESPONSIBILITIES
- Facilitate targeted safety training sessions, ensuring all team members are knowledgeable about safety protocols and procedures.
- Conduct regular on-site inspections, proactively identifying potential hazards and implementing corrective measures.
- Collaborate with project managers to develop and refine site-specific safety plans.
- Lead incident investigations and provide detailed reports with actionable recommendations.
- Engage with field teams to reinforce safety standards and ensure adherence to best practices.
- Analyze safety data to identify trends, assess program effectiveness, and recommend improvements.
- Support operations in managing risk by advising on HSE topics, enhancing safe work procedures, and providing input on new initiatives.
- Manage HSE documentation, ensuring records are up-to-date and easily accessible.
- Stay current with industry regulations and best practices, ensuring compliance across all sites.
QUALIFICATIONS and REQUIREMENTS
- 3+ years of experience in a health and safety role, preferably within the construction industry.
- Post-secondary education in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field is an asset.
- Strong understanding of safety regulations, standards, and best practices in the construction industry.
- Proven ability to lead safety training and education programs.
- Experience conducting site inspections and risk assessments, with a track record of implementing successful safety improvements.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage and influence at all levels of the organization.
- Strong analytical skills to interpret safety data and develop actionable insights.
- Highly organized, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and maintain accurate records.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and safety management software.
- Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to various job sites as needed.
