Position Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Health and Safety Specialist to join our team in the Ottawa region. Reporting to the Ontario Health and Safety Regional Manager, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safety and well-being of our employees at our various facilities located throughout Eastern Ontario.

Responsibilities

  • Cultivate a strong health and safety culture by collaborating with managers and employees across all levels.
  • Provide expert guidance and support to managers on implementing strategic health and safety initiatives, programs, procedures, and tools.
  • Conduct regular inspections of workplaces and work practices to ensure compliance with safety regulations and company standards.
  • Identify potential occupational hazards through risk assessments and develop effective preventive measures.
  • Investigate workplace accidents thoroughly and collaborate with managers to analyze root causes and implement corrective actions.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of existing safety programs and procedures, recommending improvements as needed.
  • Engage with regulatory bodies and third-party inspectors during audits and investigations.
  • Respond promptly to employee inquiries regarding health and safety matters.
  • Develop and deliver engaging training sessions on various health and safety topics, ensuring mandatory training requirements are met.
  • Track and analyze key health and safety metrics to identify trends and areas for improvement.
  • Support the onboarding process for new hires by conducting orientation sessions and providing guidance on company safety policies.
  • Assist in the implementation of corporate-wide health and safety programs, policies, and initiatives.
  • Advise and support site Health and Safety Committees.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of a college diploma or university certification in Health and Safety.
  • Five years of proven experience in a similar role within an industrial manufacturing environment.
  • Fluency in both French and English is essential.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Ontario and Quebec's occupational health and safety laws and regulations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively convey complex information.
  • Strong organizational and planning abilities, with a meticulous attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills and the ability to think critically and creatively.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams).
  • Ability to prioritize tasks effectively and manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
  • A valid driver's license is required.
