Southeast Child Family Services is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Direct Support Specialist to join our team. This role plays a vital part in providing essential services and support to children and families within the Southeast First Nation community.

As a Direct Support Specialist, you will be responsible for implementing protection and prevention programs designed to safeguard the well-being of vulnerable individuals. Your expertise will guide case management processes, ensuring adherence to prescribed timelines and fostering strong partnerships with community resources.

Responsibilities
  • Deliver comprehensive protection and prevention services to children and families within the Southeast First Nation community.
  • Effectively manage a designated caseload of Family Protection and Children-In-Care cases, adhering to established timelines and protocols.
  • Cultivate collaborative relationships with community organizations and team members to provide comprehensive support to clients.
  • Facilitate group sessions, promote teamwork, and contribute to decision-making processes. Demonstrate initiative, problem-solving skills, and leadership qualities in coordinating meetings and resolving conflicts.
  • Maintain meticulous case and file documentation, ensuring accuracy and adherence to standards such as CFSIS and IM.
  • Thrive in both collaborative team environments and independent work settings, demonstrating adaptability and professionalism.
  • Actively participate in agency events, training opportunities, and demonstrate flexibility with working hours as needed.
  • Be willing and able to travel to designated First Nations communities and rural areas as required.
Qualifications
  • A Bachelor's degree in Social Work is preferred; equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
  • Minimum of one year of front-line case management experience with Children-In-Care and families.
  • Proven experience conducting investigations, gathering information, analyzing data, and implementing appropriate actions.
  • Demonstrated understanding of Indigenous culture, rural environments, and relevant legislation such as the Child and Family Services Act, The Adoption Act, and An Act respecting First Nations, Inuit and Métis children, youth, and families.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of child welfare practices, First Nations history, colonization, crisis intervention, child protection investigations, risk assessment, substance abuse, family violence, child abuse/neglect, grief and loss issues, and community resources.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, particularly in documentation and report writing.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook), CFSIS, and IM.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable vehicle.
  • Satisfactory Criminal Record Check, Child Abuse Registry Check, and Prior Contact Check.
