Job Summary

We are a multidisciplinary team conducting health services research using Ontario administrative healthcare data. Our work encompasses the study of diverse clinical areas, such as cardiovascular disease, dementia, and oncology, and projects will include the study of basic epidemiologic trends, treatment safety and effectiveness, patient decision-making, and health policy.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute a data set creation plan and analysis plan for assigned projects.
  • Develop SAS programs to extract and merge data from existing ICES databases according to data set creation plans to create study cohorts following analytic standards and guidelines.
  • Carry out statistical analysis on developed study cohorts according to specifications of project analysis plans.
  • Prepare and review analytic output (e.g., tables and reports) along with liaising with PI/Research Coordinator, ensuring check points are being done as part of the process.
  • Work effectively and efficiently according to ICES policies, procedures, standards, workflow processes, documents, and requirements.
  • Assist with preparing study cohorts for students or faculty.
  • Contribute to the writing of reports (technical reports/working papers/ICES publications/web-based summaries), abstracts, poster presentations, peer-reviewed publications, and other relevant deliverables, in collaboration with the PI.
  • Interface with internal and external stakeholders in support of the project, such as expert panels, committees, and team meetings.
  • Facilitate the uptake of knowledge by local decision-makers across Ontario through the presentation of findings, education sessions, and one-on-one interactions as required.
  • Contribute to or support the development of a body of knowledge in support of ICES, such as updating datasets and documentation.
  • Contribute to other committees or activities within ICES Queen's or ICES in support of ICES business plans as required.
  • Uphold Queen's and ICES' reputation by following through on promises and brand expectations.
  • Undertake other duties as required in support of the unit.

Required Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Statistics, Biostatistics, Epidemiology, Public Health Sciences, or other related discipline, with a solid background in quantitative skills/statistics.
  • Experience with SAS (including SQL and macro writing) programming skills are required.
  • Consideration will be given to an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Special Skills:

  • Proficient in the use of MS Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, Internet Explorer), as well as the ability to work with computerized databases.
  • An understanding of concepts of health services research, how to use administrative data in this research, and have an appreciation for good quality data.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently as well as part of a research team.
  • Interpersonal and communication skills (both verbal and written) in order to interact with both staff and clients at all levels.
  • Good organization skills, including the ability to organize multiple projects and tasks simultaneously, with a high attention to detail.
  • Proven ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Effective time management skills in order to handle a broad range of responsibilities and frequent interruptions.
