Registered Practical Nurse for Inclusive Recreation Programs

Position Overview
The City of Ottawa is seeking a dedicated Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) to support our Inclusive Recreation initiatives. This role is integral to the delivery of recreational services that cater to individuals with diverse needs, ensuring a welcoming and accessible environment for all participants.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive nursing care to participants in various recreation programs.
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to enhance service delivery and program effectiveness.
- Implement health and safety protocols in accordance with established guidelines.
- Assist in the development and execution of inclusive programming that meets the needs of individuals with disabilities.
Qualifications
- Completion of a 4-year Bachelor of Science in Nursing (B.Sc.N) or a 2-3 year diploma in Nursing (RN or RPN) with a valid license from the Ontario College of Nurses.
- A minimum of 3-5 years of relevant experience in special needs, pediatric, rehabilitation, or community nursing.
Certifications
- Current registration as a Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
- Certification in Standard First Aid, CPR, and/or AED.
- Training in Crisis Prevention and Intervention.
- Completion of AODA Customer Service and IASR Training.
Knowledge and Skills
- Understanding of standard nursing practices and legislation regarding special needs populations.
- Strong clinical skills and sound judgment in patient care.
- Ability to demonstrate leadership and reliability in a team environment.
- Flexibility and creativity in problem-solving and program delivery.
Additional Information
- Language proficiency may vary by location, with some positions requiring English only, French only, or bilingual capabilities.
- A Vulnerable Sector Check is required for successful candidates.
- Experience and training may be considered in lieu of formal educational requirements.
