Position Overview
The City of Ottawa is seeking a dedicated Registered Practical Nurse to support our Inclusive Recreation programs. This role is vital in ensuring that all participants receive the necessary nursing care during their engagement in various recreational activities.
Department Information
The successful candidate will be part of the Recreation, Cultural & Facility Services Department, which is committed to delivering exceptional service and programs that promote inclusivity and accessibility in recreation.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive nursing care to participants in Inclusive Recreation programs.
- Collaborate with program staff to ensure a safe and supportive environment for all individuals.
- Implement health and safety protocols in accordance with established policies.
Qualifications
Applicants must possess a completed 4-year Bachelor of Science in Nursing (B.Sc.N.) degree or a 2-3 year diploma in Registered Nursing (RN) or Registered Practical Nursing (RPN). A current license from the Ontario College of Nurses is mandatory.
Experience in Special Needs, Pediatric, Rehabilitation, or Community nursing is essential, with a minimum of 3-5 years in a related field.
Certifications Required
- Current Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) certification with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
- Standard First Aid, CPR, and/or AED certifications.
- Crisis Prevention and Intervention training.
- AODA Customer Service/IASR Training.
Knowledge and Skills
- Familiarity with standard nursing practices and client care.
- Understanding of legislation protecting special needs populations.
- Ability to apply health and safety regulations effectively.
Competencies
- Strong clinical skills and sound judgment.
- Creative problem-solving abilities.
- Leadership qualities and reliability.
- Flexibility to adapt to various situations.
Additional Information
- Language requirements may vary; proficiency in English and/or French may be necessary.
- A Police Record Check will be required for the successful candidate.
- Experience and training may be considered in lieu of formal academic qualifications.
