Metrolinx is dedicated to enhancing connectivity within the Greater Golden Horseshoe. As the operator of GO Transit and UP Express, alongside the PRESTO fare payment system, we are committed to developing new and improved rapid transit solutions. This includes initiatives such as GO Expansion, Light Rail Transit routes, and significant enhancements to Toronto's subway system, all aimed at facilitating efficient travel for our community.

As a key member of our team, reporting to the Senior Manager of Transit Integration, the Senior Advisor for Fare and Service Integration will spearhead efforts to elevate the transit customer experience, ensuring seamless connections throughout the region and enhancing the convenience and accessibility of our services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Formulates and oversees policies and programs that promote fare and service integration across the Greater Golden Horseshoe (GGH).
  • Collaborates with various transit agencies and the Ministry of Transportation to enhance regional transit connectivity through integrated fare and service solutions.
  • Independently manages projects, with support from consultants, to achieve strategic objectives.
  • Develops scopes for consultant assignments and oversees deliverables to align with project goals, providing expert analysis and recommendations on transportation and land use or fare policy issues.
  • Leads the creation of reports, briefing notes, and discussion papers, presenting policy briefings to senior management, including the Chair and CEO, to address complex and politically sensitive matters.
  • Acts as a primary liaison with municipal partners and provincial ministries regarding Metrolinx and transit integration strategies and policies.
  • Monitors the overall GGH transportation landscape to identify policy challenges and suggests actions to align Metrolinx and government strategies.
  • Recognizes regional transportation trends, methodologies, and best practices, evaluating their relevance for Metrolinx policy and planning initiatives.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • A degree in Urban and Regional Planning or a related field, or a combination of education, training, and relevant experience.
  • Proven experience in transportation planning and policy formulation.
  • In-depth knowledge of transportation, land use, and/or fare policy and planning issues, preferably within the public sector.
  • Experience in engaging multiple stakeholders and managing programs effectively.
  • Strong project management skills to serve as a key contact among stakeholders within a politically influenced environment.
  • Expertise in planning, research, analysis, and problem-solving to provide guidance to senior officials on sensitive or contentious issues.
