Job Overview

Join Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) as a Security Operations Coordinator

In this pivotal role, reporting to the Manager of Relational Security, you will oversee a department dedicated to safeguarding the well-being of employees, patients, visitors, and property across the organization's facilities. You will lead a team of Security Officers and Supervisors, ensuring adherence to established policies, procedures, and standards. Additionally, you will spearhead the creation of policy frameworks and educational initiatives that reflect best practices and the core values of the organization.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide effective leadership and mentorship to a designated team, utilizing management techniques that foster professional development, conduct performance assessments, and create a supportive learning environment. Enhance workplace safety by implementing trauma-informed care practices and principles of equity, diversity, and inclusion. Foster respectful interactions with diverse residents, patients, clients, and families through active listening and compassionate engagement. Drive the development and execution of departmental training programs, ensuring alignment with current best practices. Facilitate training sessions and evaluate educational programs to meet identified training needs. Oversee the procurement of supplies, ensuring budget compliance and inventory management for uniforms and equipment. Conduct departmental investigations, implement findings, and engage in quality improvement discussions. Provide guidance to contracted security services during emergency situations. Update and maintain security access guidelines based on role responsibilities. Build and maintain relationships with external service providers, addressing operational and client relations concerns. Collaborate with the Integrated Protection Services Team to ensure effective coordination and partnership. Participate in budget reviews and departmental planning, working closely with the Manager to allocate financial and human resources effectively. Uphold health and safety standards, promptly reporting any unsafe conditions to the appropriate personnel. Undertake additional duties as required.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

A college diploma in a relevant field such as criminal justice or business administration. A minimum of five (5) years of recent experience in security and fire prevention/protection, including at least two (2) years in a supervisory capacity, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Preferred certifications include Basic Security Training (BST) and Advanced Security Training (AST). A valid driver's license is required for local travel.

Knowledge & Skills

Proven knowledge of violence prevention and de-escalation techniques, as well as trauma-informed care. Familiarity with principles of Indigenous cultural safety, equity, diversity, and inclusion. Strong leadership and management capabilities in a complex environment. Excellent verbal and written communication skills for effective interaction with internal and external partners. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications for documentation and communication purposes. Ability to cultivate effective relationships with team members and stakeholders. Commitment to client-focused services and a collaborative teamwork approach. Strong organizational skills to manage workloads, delegate tasks, and prioritize responsibilities. Physical capability to perform the duties associated with this position.
