Position Overview:

The Engineering Project Coordinator will be responsible for directing a small team to manage the installation, commissioning, and initiation of process equipment within the facility. This role involves overseeing contractors to ensure timely, budget-compliant, and specification-adherent project completion, while also addressing field modifications, facilitating communication, and resolving technical inquiries. Typically, original equipment manufacturer (OEM) engineers will be present on-site to provide additional technical assistance. The candidate will operate in a construction setting under the guidance of the Global Engineering Construction Manager.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Oversee risk management and ensure contractors execute electrical and mechanical tasks safely, adhering to specifications, timelines, and budget constraints.
  2. Engage in the preparation of installation bid packages, contractor evaluations, and pre-construction planning.
  3. Gain a comprehensive understanding of equipment installation sequences, assembly details, budget estimates, project scope, and timelines.
  4. Interpret and comprehend all manufacturer assembly drawings and instructions pertinent to equipment installation, bid packages, and construction documents, including scopes of work, specifications, and drawings.
  5. Facilitate daily meetings with contractors.
  6. Effectively manage communication among contractors, corporate engineers, and other stakeholders to coordinate efforts and resolve challenges.
  7. Conduct weekly discussions with the GE process team and distribute meeting summaries.
  8. Ensure all installations comply with GE standards and requirements.
  9. Review critical deliverables such as scope of supply, quality, workmanship, and functionality to confirm systems are operational.
  10. Handle administrative responsibilities including scheduling, budget oversight, cost management, and weekly reporting.
  11. Assess and approve progress invoices and change requests.
  12. Confirm receipt of all equipment drawings, operation and maintenance manuals, and spare parts lists.
  13. Coordinate commissioning activities with contractors, equipment suppliers, GE engineers, and plant operations personnel.
  14. Align equipment commissioning efforts with data management systems for production tracking and monitoring.
  15. Support the Process Sign-Off (PSO) for assigned equipment and manage punch lists.
  16. Gather and maintain 'as-built' documentation to reflect any modifications made during construction.
  17. Standard working hours will be five days per week during construction, with additional hours potentially required to meet deadlines or during the start-up and testing phases of new systems.
Qualifications:

A Bachelor's degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics is required. Preference will be given to candidates with a degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering and a Professional Engineer (P.Eng) license in Ontario.

Experience:

A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience is required. Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to continuous learning, evidenced by professional licensing, advanced degrees, or additional training. Experience in cross-divisional collaboration and external organization engagement is essential. Candidates should have completed cross-functional assignments or projects and/or held at least two positions within the division or completed a plant assignment.

Mechanical Systems Knowledge:

(preferred)

  1. Thorough understanding of equipment rigging, leveling, alignment, grouting, welding, and commissioning procedures.
  2. Ability to interpret piping schematics and flow diagrams.
  3. Knowledge of environmental regulations and requirements.
  4. Familiarity with industrial piping, pumps, valves, and instrumentation for various systems.
  5. Understanding of fire protection piping and systems.
  6. Knowledge of process ventilation and cooling systems, including humidity control.
  7. Experience with dust collector systems.
  8. Familiarity with industry and government specifications and standards for the aforementioned systems.
Electrical Systems Knowledge:

  1. Experience with medium and low-voltage drives and machine control systems.
  2. Familiarity with pneumatic and hydraulic control systems.
  3. Knowledge of vision systems for material guidance and tracking.
  4. Understanding of gauging and barcoding systems.
  5. Experience with safety systems.
  6. Ability to read and interpret various electrical diagrams and control logic.
  7. Capability to verify electrical installations for compliance with industry standards.
  8. Experience in developing testing requirements and leading electrical equipment checkout, startup, and troubleshooting.
  9. Familiarity with industry and government specifications and standards for electrical systems.
