Position Overview

The Project Specialist is responsible for leading a dedicated team to manage the installation, commissioning, and initiation of process equipment within the facility. This role involves overseeing contractors to ensure timely, budget-conscious, and specification-compliant project completion. The Specialist will address field modifications, facilitate communication, and resolve technical inquiries while collaborating with machine OEM engineers who may provide on-site support. The position operates within a construction environment under the guidance of the Global Engineering Construction Manager.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess risks and ensure contractors execute electrical and mechanical tasks safely, adhering to specifications, timelines, and budget constraints.
  • Engage in the preparation of installation bid packages, contractor evaluations, and pre-construction planning.
  • Acquire a comprehensive understanding of equipment installation sequences, assembly specifics, budget estimates, job scopes, and schedules.
  • Interpret and comprehend all manufacturer assembly diagrams and installation instructions for equipment, bid packages, and construction documentation, including scopes of work, specifications, and drawings.
  • Facilitate daily meetings with contractors.
  • Effectively manage communications among contractors, Goodyear corporate engineers, and other stakeholders to coordinate efforts and resolve challenges.
  • Conduct weekly discussions with the GE process team and document meeting outcomes.
  • Ensure all installations comply with GE standards and requirements.
  • Review critical deliverables such as scope of supply, quality, workmanship, and functionality to confirm systems are operational.
  • Perform administrative duties including scheduling, budget oversight, cost management, and weekly reporting.
  • Evaluate and authorize progress invoices and change requests.
  • Confirm receipt of all equipment drawings, operation and maintenance manuals, and spare parts lists.
  • Coordinate commissioning efforts with contractors, equipment suppliers, GE engineers, and the plant operations team.
  • Align equipment commissioning activities with data management systems for production monitoring and tracking.
  • Support the Process Sign-Off (PSO) for assigned equipment and manage punch lists.
  • Gather and maintain 'as-built' documentation reflecting any modifications made during construction.
  • Standard working hours will be five days per week during construction, with additional hours as necessary to meet deadlines or during system start-up and testing.
Qualifications
Education:
Bachelor's degree or relevant experience.
Relevant experience, preferably with trade certifications (e.g., millwright or electrician).

Experience:
  • 4+ years of experience with a degree or 9+ years of equivalent experience without a degree.
  • A commitment to continuous learning demonstrated through the application of knowledge gained from additional education, experience, or training.
  • Experience in cross-functional assignments or projects.
  • Participation in cross-functional assignments, projects, and other initiatives aimed at self-development.
Knowledge:

Mechanical Systems (preferred):
  • Thorough understanding of equipment rigging, leveling, alignment, grouting, welding, and commissioning processes.
  • Ability to interpret piping schematics and flow diagrams.
  • Knowledge of environmental regulations and requirements.
  • Familiarity with industrial piping, pumps, valves, and instrumentation for various mediums including water, gas, hydraulics, pneumatics, steam, compressed air, and lubrication.
  • Understanding of fire protection piping and systems.
  • Knowledge of process ventilation and cooling systems, including humidity control.
  • Experience with dust collector systems.
  • Familiarity with industry and government specifications and standards for the aforementioned systems.
Electrical Systems (preferred):
  • Experience with medium and low-voltage drives and machine control systems.
  • Knowledge of pneumatic and hydraulic control systems.
  • Familiarity with vision systems for material guidance and tracking.
  • Understanding of gauging and barcoding systems.
  • Knowledge of safety systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret various electrical diagrams and installation details.
  • Capability to verify electrical drawings and installations for compliance with Goodyear, industry, and government standards.
  • Experience in developing testing requirements and leading electrical equipment checkout, startup, and troubleshooting.
  • Familiarity with industry and government specifications and standards for electrical systems.
  • Experience with process equipment, preferably in the tire or rubber machinery sector.
  • Strong understanding of safe work practices and quality workmanship.
  • Ability to foster effective teamwork, maintain professionalism, and build positive relationships within and outside the team.
  • Experience in budgeting and capital forecasting.
  • Familiarity with Gantt chart scheduling and risk identification and mitigation.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD two-dimensional drafting software.
