Your Role as a Senior Geotechnical Engineer

EXP is seeking a Senior Geotechnical Engineer with expertise in tunneling projects to enhance our engineering team in Brampton, Ontario. Reporting directly to the Geotechnical Division Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for providing technical services and overseeing project management across various initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Cultivating and maintaining client relationships.
  • Drafting project proposals for geotechnical services, including cost assessments and timelines.
  • Planning and executing assignments that require a comprehensive understanding of geotechnical engineering and its interplay with other technical fields.
  • Employing a mix of standard procedures and innovative methods tailored to each unique project.
  • Coordinating with clients, suppliers, and third parties to meet project objectives.
  • Managing projects to fulfill client requirements, including staff and contractor oversight, work scheduling, and budget management.
  • Directing field operations, including investigations, monitoring, and testing services on construction projects.
  • Participating in project meetings and conducting site inspections when advanced technical guidance is necessary.
  • Analyzing and interpreting data from geotechnical instrumentation programs.
  • Preparing and reviewing technical documentation.
  • Collaborating with senior staff on complex and challenging issues.
  • Conducting independent studies and analyses.
  • Working autonomously with minimal supervision, depending on assignment complexity.
  • Engaging with clients, contractors, consultants, and municipal staff.
  • Advancing personal technical skills and mentoring others.
  • Coaching and developing junior and intermediate geotechnical staff.

Required Qualifications

  • Designation from Ontario is mandatory.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Geotechnical, Civil, or Geological Engineering; a postgraduate degree is preferred.
  • At least 10 years of relevant experience in geotechnical engineering, particularly in tunneling, ideally in a consulting environment.
  • Experience managing engineering teams of intermediate and junior professionals.
  • Ability to develop comprehensive scopes of work tailored to client needs.
  • Proficiency in applying advanced engineering principles.
  • Ensuring compliance with established standards and criteria.
  • Maintaining budgetary control, adapting to changes in project scope.
  • Timely and accurate reporting of project progress.
  • Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Proven ability to generate business and expand client relationships.
  • Familiarity with complex geotechnical investigations and design work.
  • Demonstrated success in mentoring junior engineering staff.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to engage diplomatically with colleagues, clients, and contractors.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, including multitasking and prioritization.
  • Strong problem-solving capabilities.
  • Knowledge of standard construction procedures and methodologies.
  • Ability to thrive in a collaborative team environment.
  • Advanced experience in computer analysis.
  • Valid driver's license and access to a vehicle.
