Position Overview

The Clinical Nutrition Specialist is tasked with delivering safe, competent, and ethical nutritional care to patients, families, and the community. This role involves providing expert advice on dietary practices and nutrition across various health sectors. The specialist will lead initiatives aimed at enhancing the nutritional well-being of clients through health promotion, disease prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Participate in the Integrated Dietetic Internship program, including mentoring dietetic interns.
  • Collaborate with an inter-professional healthcare team to ensure quality and continuity of care.
  • Utilize nutrition expertise to support a range of healthcare services within a holistic, client-centered framework.

Qualifications

We invite applications from candidates who possess the following:

  • A Bachelor's degree with a major in Foods and Nutrition.
  • Completion of a Dietetic Internship Program.
  • Current registration or eligibility with the Nova Scotia Dietetic Association.
  • Preferred experience of at least one year as a dietitian.
  • Familiarity with inpatient clinical nutrition is advantageous.
  • Competence in managing dysphagia and providing enteral and parenteral nutrition.
  • Experience in counseling patients in outpatient settings.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications; familiarity with Meditech is a plus.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and work effectively under pressure.
  • Commitment to ongoing education and skill enhancement.
  • Capacity to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Competencies in additional languages are an asset, with French being preferred.

Work Schedule

  • Part-time long-assignment; 60% position with 45 hours bi-weekly.
  • Assignment duration is approximately 18 months, subject to change.

Compensation and Benefits

The hourly wage for this position is $43.43. Successful candidates may qualify for a comprehensive benefits package, which includes health, dental, travel, long-term disability, and life insurance, as well as a defined benefit pension plan.
