About the Role

The Clinical Nutrition Specialist is accountable for delivering competent, safe, and ethical professional services to patients, families, and the community. This role involves providing expert advice on dietary practices and nutritional strategies across various health sectors. The specialist will lead collaborative efforts to enhance the nutritional well-being of clients through health promotion, disease prevention, treatment, support, and rehabilitation initiatives. Additionally, participation in the Integrated Dietetic Internship program, including mentoring Dietetic Interns, is a key responsibility.

As an integral member of the inter-professional team, the Clinical Nutrition Specialist contributes to patient care by collaborating with healthcare providers, sharing nutritional knowledge, ensuring quality and continuity of care, and supporting a diverse range of health services. These services are delivered within a holistic, client-centered framework that aligns with our mission, vision, values, and strategic objectives.

Qualifications

We encourage applications from candidates who possess the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree with a major in Foods and Nutrition is required
  • Completion of a Dietetic Internship Program is mandatory
  • Current registration (or eligibility) with the Nova Scotia Dietetic Association is essential
  • A minimum of one year of experience as a dietitian is preferred
  • Experience in inpatient clinical nutrition is an asset
  • Proficiency in dysphagia management, enteral, and parenteral nutrition
  • Experience in counseling patients in an outpatient environment
  • Current WHMIS certification is an asset
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office applications; familiarity with the Meditech information system is advantageous
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, solve problems, and work effectively under time constraints
  • Commitment to ongoing education and skill enhancement
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary healthcare team
  • Competencies in additional languages are an asset, with French being preferred

Compensation and Benefits

The hourly wage is $42.58.
