About the Role

The University of Toronto seeks a dedicated and compassionate Student Wellness Counselor to join our team. In this role, you will provide confidential counseling services to students facing a wide range of mental health challenges. You will work collaboratively with students to develop coping strategies, enhance their well-being, and support their academic success.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver individual and group counseling sessions to students experiencing diverse mental health concerns.
  • Conduct comprehensive assessments to understand student needs and develop individualized treatment plans.
  • Provide crisis intervention and support to students in urgent situations.
  • Collaborate with faculty, staff, and other campus resources to ensure holistic student support.
  • Promote mental health awareness and education through workshops and presentations.

Required Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Counseling Psychology, Social Work, or a related field.
  • Registered with the relevant professional body (e.g., College of Psychologists of Ontario).
  • Demonstrated experience providing individual and group counseling to students.
  • Strong clinical skills, including assessment, diagnosis, and treatment planning.
  • Empathy, compassion, and a non-judgmental approach to working with diverse student populations.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of mental health issues affecting post-secondary students.

Assets (Nonessential)

  • Life coaching, mindfulness-based therapies, and alternative evidence-based therapies.
  • Familiarity with Stepped Care.
  • Prior experience working with post-secondary students and knowledge of university and community mental health resources.
  • Familiarity with electronic medical record keeping.
