Cultural Support Coordinator for Indigenous Students

Position: Cultural Support Coordinator for Indigenous Students
Employment Type: Regular, Full-time
Key Responsibilities: Under the guidance of the Executive Director of Indigenous Strategy and Reconciliation, and in collaboration with the Indigenous Education team, the Cultural Support Coordinator will play a pivotal role in crafting a recruitment strategy and providing essential services and support tailored for Indigenous students. This role involves assessing and enhancing the existing services and support systems for Indigenous learners in partnership with various colleagues and departments. The Coordinator will engage closely with the Ktunaxa Nation and Indigenous communities to ensure culturally relevant practices and protocols are upheld. A significant aspect of this position includes organizing cultural events and activities that benefit Indigenous students and the broader College community. Additionally, the Cultural Support Coordinator will offer administrative and clerical assistance to the Indigenous Education team.
Qualifications: A University Studies Certificate in Indigenous Studies, Social Work, Human Service Work, or a related field is required; a focus on Indigenous Studies is preferred. Further education may be necessary for the selected candidate to fulfill the desired qualifications. A minimum of two years of relevant experience working with Indigenous students, communities, and organizations is essential.
Candidates should possess a profound understanding of Ktunaxa culture, along with firsthand experience in local Indigenous communities and organizations. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, exceptional organizational abilities, and experience in event planning are crucial. Proficiency in MS Office and a valid Class 5 driver's license are also required.

Compensation: The position offers a salary in accordance with CUPE Pay Level 5, starting at $48,994.40 annually, as outlined in the CUPE Collective Agreement. The College provides a comprehensive benefits package, including a defined pension plan, generous vacation entitlements, and health and dental coverage.
