As an individual with a strong analytical mindset, you excel in cultivating strategic alliances among diverse groups. Your commitment to integrity and empathy, paired with humility and a touch of humor, empowers you to effectively manage conflicts. With a natural leadership ability, you embrace challenges and possess a profound dedication to nurturing relationships with Indigenous communities. Your expertise in crafting and executing Indigenous engagement strategies has greatly enhanced connections with First Nations.
In the role of Indigenous Relations and Engagement Coordinator, you will be pivotal in enhancing the organization's partnerships with First Nations as a key industry ally for Indigenous peoples. This position calls for a seasoned professional in Indigenous relations, possessing robust connections within Indigenous communities and with Indigenous leaders. You will also assist in the development and execution of Canfor's Indigenous engagement initiatives, aimed at fostering and reinforcing relationships with Indigenous communities across the Kootenay Region. The responsibilities encompass areas such as Cranbrook, Elko, Radium, and Creston, with the successful candidate being based in any of these communities and expected to travel frequently.
The responsibilities of the Indigenous Relations and Engagement Coordinator include:
- Strategic Guidance: Offer operational and strategic insights to Woodlands staff, management, and executives, collaborating closely with regional colleagues and senior management to advance Canfor's Indigenous Engagement Strategy.
- Operational Planning: Work alongside Canfor Woodlands staff to ensure a reliable and timely process for the approval of operational plans and permits, while supporting planning, permitting, harvesting, and silviculture activities.
- Relationship Building: Assist in establishing mutually beneficial protocols, relationships, and forestry agreements with Indigenous groups, while enhancing connections with Indigenous communities, regional Indigenous leaders, and key Indigenous political, employment, and advocacy organizations.
- Consistency and Best Practices: Provide overarching support to ensure uniformity across other regions within Canfor and facilitate the exchange of information and best practices in relationship-building with Indigenous communities.
- Outreach and Collaboration: Support Indigenous outreach initiatives in the region, and initiate and leverage business and employment partnership opportunities.
For this position, candidates should possess:
- Exceptional communication skills and the ability to cultivate and maintain industry and culturally-specific business relationships with diverse groups.
- Experience in complex conflict resolution and stakeholder management.
- A background in working with Indigenous communities.
- Demonstrated strong relationships with Indigenous communities and leaders.
Ideally, candidates will hold a post-secondary degree in Indigenous studies or natural resource management, or possess an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience in forestry and/or natural resources is also advantageous.
If you have a cultural understanding and outstanding communication abilities, we encourage you to consider this opportunity.
