Job Overview - Lead Underwriter, Mid-Market Solutions

Position Summary:

As a pivotal member of our newly formed division at XL CATLIN, the Mid-Market Solutions team is dedicated to enhancing our service offerings to mid-sized clients within the Canadian Commercial Property & Casualty sector. In this role, you will play a crucial part in forging new partnerships with brokers and clients, while effectively marketing and underwriting our diverse product range.

Your Key Responsibilities:

  • Drive the development and promotion of innovative products across General Liability, Property, Automobile, Umbrella, and Environmental sectors.
  • Engage in underwriting processes for both new and renewal accounts, ensuring alignment with profitability and rate objectives, collaborating closely with actuarial and claims teams to achieve favorable outcomes.
  • Establish and nurture broker relationships within our distribution framework, addressing their marketing and educational requirements supported by XL CATLIN's Mid-Market Solutions.
  • Interact directly with clients, brokers, and producers to provide exceptional service and support.
  • Collaborate effectively within a team setting, assisting fellow underwriters and management in achieving collective goals.
  • Maintain high service quality standards and adhere to all internal compliance protocols.
  • Represent the company at various industry events and internal functions, fostering relationships with agents and stakeholders.
  • Set annual objectives with brokers, provide regular updates, and monitor financial performance against established plans.
  • Proactively engage with brokers and markets to stimulate growth, meeting with clients and prospects to build relationships and deliver educational resources.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Comprehensive understanding of the Canadian insurance landscape, with a strong grasp of insurance product offerings and effective broker engagement.
  • Significant experience in Middle Market insurance, including underwriting, claims, or business development.
  • Ability to distinguish XL CATLIN in the marketplace through innovative offerings and business practices.
  • Proven track record in building and sustaining strong relationships with insureds and brokers.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with a strong emphasis on customer service.
  • A collaborative team player who contributes creative solutions and ideas.
