About the Role:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Commercial Underwriter, Mid Market to join our team at Co-operators. As a key member of our underwriting team, you will play a critical role in reviewing and evaluating large and complex account applications to determine risk, extent of coverage, and premiums.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review and evaluate large and complex account applications to determine risk, extent of coverage, and premiums.
  • Accept or reject applications based on established policies, procedures, and standards, company philosophies, and Authority Levels.
  • Promote, underwrite, and quote new business, renewals, and endorsements in accordance with the company's underwriting philosophy, rating, loss ratio objectives, service standards, and authority levels.
  • Negotiate coverage and rates and participate in underwriting audits.
  • Complete necessary documentation in support of the business you handle.
  • Develop and maintain positive, constructive relationships with brokers.
  • Develop a team-oriented approach to meeting corporate and department goals and objectives, including written premium and profitability objectives.
  • Handle branch underwriting referrals and provide mentoring/coaching to more junior underwriting team members.
  • Keep current on market conditions and insurance regulations and emerging trends.
  • Participate in special projects in conjunction with various teams across Co-operators as required.

Requirements:

  • 7+ years of Commercial Underwriting experience, with strong mid-market experience.
  • Experience in Construction, Manufacturing, Wholesale, and/or Transportation and Logistics segments.
  • Having Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) designation an asset.

Salary Range: $86,250 - $143,750
