Job Summary

North Island College is seeking a qualified Digital Design Instructor to fill sessional instructional assignments in the 2024 Fall term. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching Digital Graphics courses, utilizing a variety of approaches and materials to address different learning needs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan and prepare learning materials for instructional environments
  • Teach in assigned subject areas, including Digital Graphics, and incorporate required subject matter or skill activity
  • Direct student learning in a positive, supportive, and caring environment
  • Be available to students regularly during scheduled office hours and classroom hours to discuss their progress and other issues that influence their learning
  • Clearly communicate learning outcomes for programs and courses, and the way in which learners will be evaluated against those outcomes
  • Design and conduct evaluations or appraisals of students, and keep students informed of their progress
  • Submit grades in a timely manner, in accordance with College policies
  • Maintain records of student enrollment and achievement, and other records required by the College and affiliated agencies
Professional Duties
  • Be aware of, and work within, College educational policies
  • Contribute to the development and achievement of the College's goals and objectives
  • Advise the Department Chair regarding enrollment management strategies for their areas of responsibility
  • Advise the Department Chair responsible, and the appropriate Administrator and/or Campus Health and Safety Committee, of any health and safety concerns
  • Demonstrate knowledge of computer applications appropriate to the teaching environment
  • Maintain continuous professional development of competencies and qualifications as required in the discipline
  • Participate actively as a contributing member of the College community on College committees and other College-wide activities
Requirements
  • Master's degree in an appropriate discipline and/or equivalent professional experience, and demonstrated competencies related to the course curriculum
  • Three years of successful, related industry experience and/or teaching experience at a post-secondary level
  • Proficiency with current industry standard tools and technologies related to Communication Design
  • Demonstrated excellent instructional abilities, using a variety of creative and motivating approaches to stimulate learning
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to plan, prioritize, and efficiently meet deadlines
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills in course-specific areas, including Digital Graphics, technical proficiency with Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign, and knowledge of related design tools
