Position Overview: As the leader of the Cloud team within our Advanced Vehicle Technology Organization, you will be instrumental in steering the future of our telemetry technology. You will work in close partnership with diverse engineering teams, leveraging your expertise to enhance vehicle performance, improve safety measures, and optimize operational efficiency. This role presents a unique opportunity to apply your technical acumen, creativity, and strategic vision to tackle complex challenges in a dynamic and fulfilling environment while guiding and uplifting your team.
Key Responsibilities:Technical Leadership and Mentorship- Direct a team of engineers in the design, development, deployment, and maintenance of scalable and secure cloud-based solutions for telemetry data processing and visualization.
- Offer technical mentorship to team members, cultivating a culture of innovation, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
- Oversee the architecture, development, and operation of backend systems that manage telemetry data ingestion, storage, processing, and analysis.
- Implement best practices for cloud infrastructure management, ensuring high availability, disaster recovery, and cost efficiency.
- Design robust backend software solutions and REST APIs using Python and frameworks such as Express.
- Administer the complete lifecycle of telemetry data, including extraction, transformation, loading (ETL), storage, and retrieval.
- Design and implement data pipelines and workflows to accommodate real-time and batch processing needs.
- Utilize tools and protocols such as Python, Pandas, OPC UA, MQTT, and cloud platforms (Azure, AWS).
- Manage database systems including Azure Postgres Database, SQL, NoSQL, Timeseries DB, Snowflake, Active Directory, and Data Lake/Warehouse.
- Supervise the development and enhancement of user-friendly and responsive web interfaces for telemetry data visualization and interaction.
- Ensure effective implementation of UI and UX design principles, meeting both functional and aesthetic standards.
- Utilize HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and front-end frameworks like React and NextJS.
- Work closely with cross-functional teams, including product management, QA, and operations, to align technology solutions with business goals.
- Act as a technical liaison with stakeholders, providing updates, gathering requirements, and addressing technical inquiries.
- Understand CAN protocols, including CANOpen and J1939, for effective communication with vehicle systems and intelligent processing/display of vehicle data.
- Monitor system performance metrics and implement optimizations to ensure scalability, reliability, and efficiency of cloud-based applications and services.
- Conduct regular system audits and enforce security measures to protect telemetry data and infrastructure.
- Exhibit advanced knowledge of security principles and their implementation.
- Maintain thorough documentation of system architecture, configurations, and processes.
- Ensure adherence to relevant regulations, data protection standards, and industry best practices.
- Utilize development tools like Visual Studio Code and project management tools such as Azure DevOps.
- Employ Docker, container orchestration, and Kubernetes for deployment.
- Design and implement automated testing suites, environment management, and deployment pipelines (Jenkins, Azure).
The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills, leadership capabilities, and problem-solving proficiency. They should demonstrate organizational skills, discipline, a proactive learning attitude, and a positive outlook. Additionally, candidates should meet the following qualifications:
- A minimum of 5 years of engineering development experience in software engineering or a related field.
- At least 5 years of experience with the responsibilities and duties outlined above.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in English; proficiency in additional languages, particularly Spanish and French, is a plus.
- A Bachelor's degree or higher in engineering, computer science, or a related field is preferred.
- A Professional Engineer (P.Eng) license or similar certification is advantageous.
- Experience in mobile vehicle telemetry and mining is beneficial.
