Role Summary

What is the opportunity?

As the Senior Director of Strategy and Business Operations, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the strategic direction and overseeing the execution of key initiatives within Retail Banking and Payments Technology (RBPTI). Reporting directly to the Executive Vice President / Head, you will provide essential strategic and operational support to the executive leadership team, collaborating with various leaders across Technology & Operations (T&O), Personal & Commercial Banking (P&CB), and the Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) to effectively drive and implement strategic goals and operational activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as a strategic consultant to the Executive Vice President and other senior executives, aiding in the formulation and execution of strategic and operational objectives.
  • Collaborate with senior leaders across T&O and RBC to spearhead cross-enterprise strategic initiatives and projects.
  • Facilitate regular executive meetings to establish strategic priorities for the department while reviewing progress on operational activities and financial performance.
  • Lead a diverse Strategy and Business Operations team (approximately 20 members) to guide efforts in Technology Strategy, Portfolio and Planning Management, Vendor Strategy and Execution, Operational Risk, and Communications.
  • Direct the strategy and execution of RBPT vendors in alignment with the overarching T&O and RBPTI Strategy.

Qualifications for Success

Essential Requirements:

  • A bachelor's degree in business or a related field; an MBA is preferred.
  • Over 10 years of demonstrated experience in collaborating with and advising senior executives while leading and executing strategic projects/programs, with a total of 15+ years of professional experience.
  • Proven experience in executive engagement, stakeholder management, and team leadership.
  • Strong financial acumen and a comprehensive understanding of revenue-generating operations.
  • Experience in developing and managing technology strategies, along with a broad understanding of technology delivery, staying current with industry trends and their implications.
  • Proficiency in managing substantial portfolios, including budget management and financial tracking, in close partnership with Finance.
  • Expertise in creating and managing performance metrics and scorecards for large teams, collaborating with leadership to enhance operational efficiency and productivity.
  • Experience in Vendor Management and negotiating significant contracts to achieve cost savings and effective delivery models.
  • Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills, particularly in technology strategy.
  • Ability to craft and tailor presentations and messaging for an executive audience.
