Job Overview

The Underwriting Supervisor for Personal Lines operates with minimal oversight, tasked with guiding a team dedicated to personal lines underwriting while managing daily operational activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and mentor team members through constructive coaching and feedback, clearly communicating performance expectations and facilitating knowledge-sharing sessions.
  • Recognize and promote opportunities for professional growth, offering support and guidance to team members.
  • Collaborate with Underwriting Excellence to ensure compliance with established policies, procedures, and underwriting standards.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and participate in the recruitment process for potential new hires.
  • Respond to inquiries and communicate decisions in a timely and professional manner.
  • Positively influence team dynamics and assist in the development and execution of strategic business changes to achieve team objectives.
  • Consult with management regarding underwriting and staffing matters.
  • Engage actively in departmental strategic planning, including setting goals.
  • Participate in Large Loss Reviews, offering insights and recommendations on underwriting decisions.
  • Cultivate strong working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders, including networking at industry events.
  • Undertake additional responsibilities as required.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of five years of experience in the Property and Casualty sector.
  • Relevant post-secondary education or equivalent business experience.
  • Completion of a recognized Property and Casualty Industry Designation.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong leadership capabilities to effectively guide and influence team members.
  • Previous leadership experience is highly advantageous.
  • Exceptional attention to detail with the ability to analyze information thoroughly.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the capacity to identify and implement optimal solutions.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present information persuasively.
  • Strong decision-making abilities, with a focus on providing sound justifications.
  • Adaptable to change and capable of performing well under pressure.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple tasks and track progress to meet deadlines.
  • Outstanding customer service skills.
