The Underwriting Supervisor for Personal Lines operates with minimal oversight, tasked with guiding a team dedicated to personal lines underwriting while managing daily operational activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and mentor team members through constructive coaching and feedback, clearly communicating performance expectations and facilitating knowledge-sharing sessions.
- Recognize and promote opportunities for professional growth, offering support and guidance to team members.
- Collaborate with Underwriting Excellence to ensure compliance with established policies, procedures, and underwriting standards.
- Conduct performance evaluations and participate in the recruitment process for potential new hires.
- Respond to inquiries and communicate decisions in a timely and professional manner.
- Positively influence team dynamics and assist in the development and execution of strategic business changes to achieve team objectives.
- Consult with management regarding underwriting and staffing matters.
- Engage actively in departmental strategic planning, including setting goals.
- Participate in Large Loss Reviews, offering insights and recommendations on underwriting decisions.
- Cultivate strong working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders, including networking at industry events.
- Undertake additional responsibilities as required.
Qualifications
- Minimum of five years of experience in the Property and Casualty sector.
- Relevant post-secondary education or equivalent business experience.
- Completion of a recognized Property and Casualty Industry Designation.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong leadership capabilities to effectively guide and influence team members.
- Previous leadership experience is highly advantageous.
- Exceptional attention to detail with the ability to analyze information thoroughly.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the capacity to identify and implement optimal solutions.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present information persuasively.
- Strong decision-making abilities, with a focus on providing sound justifications.
- Adaptable to change and capable of performing well under pressure.
- Proven ability to manage multiple tasks and track progress to meet deadlines.
- Outstanding customer service skills.
