Abilities Claims Specialist

Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled Disability Management Professional to join our team at AppleOne. As an Abilities Claims Specialist, you will play a critical role in facilitating and promoting a safe return-to-work for employees through gathering and reviewing medical information and case investigation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Case Management: Facilitate and promote a safe return-to-work for employees through gathering and reviewing medical information and case investigation, including documentation of case management plans and rationale.
- Stakeholder Communication: Communicate with key stakeholders, employees, and health care providers to adjudicate and manage return-to-work planning.
- Transition Management: Manage the transition to LTD and provide medical and summary case management to the LTD insurer to ensure a seamless transition.
- Return-to-Work Planning: Monitor return-to-work plans and provide regular updates to all stakeholders.
- Collaboration: Collaborate with internal and external experts, including physicians, ergonomists, safety specialists, external providers, WSIB, and insurance companies.
- Policies and Practices: Expert knowledge of WSIB, OHRA, LTD, and AODA policies and practices.
- Team Collaboration: Work closely with other members of the Employee Health Services and Human Resources teams.
- Disability Management: Enhance and champion disability management and return-to-work strategies and related programs, and foster a strong culture of employee health, safety, and wellness.
- WSIB Claims: Liaise with the Health and Safety Specialist in regards to WSIB claims for work-related illness or injury.
- Payroll Coding: Advise/assist with payroll coding.
Requirements:
- Education: Post-secondary degree, diploma in a related field, or certificate in a Disability Management related field with an equivalent combination of work experience.
- Experience: Minimum three (3) years' experience in Disability Management and Return to Work, managing WSIB, STD, and LTD claims.
- Legislation Knowledge: Expertise in relevant legislation, e.g. WSIA, Occupational Health & Safety Act, Human Rights Code.
- Skills: Excellent problem-solving, time management, prioritization, and conflict resolution skills.
- Independence and Collaboration: The ability to work independently while maintaining collaborative relationships with internal and external contacts.
- Computer Skills: Strong computer skills in MS Office.
- Professional Attitude: Professional attitude, results-oriented, open to a changing environment.
- Communication Skills: Excellent presentation, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Customer Service: Strong customer service focus.
