Job SummaryWe are seeking a skilled and experienced HSQE Specialist to join our team and contribute to the development and implementation of our health, safety, and quality policies and procedures. The successful candidate will possess a deep understanding of federal regulations and be well-versed in incident investigations, internal and external auditing, risk assessment, and reporting.
Key Responsibilities- Health and Safety Policy Development: Provide support and guidance in the creation and implementation of H&S policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with federal regulations.
- Risk Management: Continuously identify H&S risks and recommend changes to internal and external safety practices to mitigate potential hazards.
- Incident Investigations: Conduct thorough investigations of incidents, providing both quantitative and qualitative data to inform preventative and proactive measures.
- Claim Documentation: Prepare and manage all supporting claim documentation for underwriting of incidents, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
- Safety Standards and Objectives: Collaborate with ORM and Operations to facilitate and lead company safety standards and annual objectives, promoting a culture of safety excellence.
- Auditing and Risk Assessments: Perform internal and external audits, providing recommendations for corrective findings and facilitating high-level operational risk assessments.
- New Hire Orientation: Provide onboarding orientation to all new hires, ensuring they understand company safety standards and protocols.
- Safety Training: Occasionally provide safety training, including First Aid & CPR, Confined Space Entry, Fall protection, and other relevant topics.
- Vessel Evaluations: Visit company vessels as required to evaluate and examine current H&S measures, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Education: Degree or Diploma in H&S or a related field.
- Experience: Five years of experience related to the industrial or transportation industry.
- Regulatory Knowledge: Strong understanding of federal health and safety regulatory requirements.
- Investigation and Resolution: Ability to investigate and resolve workplace incidents, conducting root cause analysis and implementing corrective and preventative measures.
- Training and Auditing: Certified trainer or experience in providing training, such as First Aid & CPR, and auditing capabilities in the federal HSE environment are considered assets.
- Marine Industry Experience: Experience within the marine industry is considered an asset.
The successful candidate will be based in our Burlington head office, with occasional travel to company vessels and warehouse(s). McKeil Marine Limited offers a competitive total compensation program and a dynamic work environment that supports all communities in which we operate.
