Position Overview

The Algonquin Resort is seeking a dedicated and skilled Sous Chef to join our culinary team. This role is essential in ensuring the smooth operation of our kitchen and delivering exceptional dining experiences.

Qualifications
  • Education: Completion of secondary school is required.
  • Experience: A minimum of 3 to 5 years of relevant experience in a professional kitchen environment.
Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain comprehensive records of food costs, consumption, sales, and inventory management.
  • Showcase innovative cooking techniques and equipment to kitchen staff.
  • Guide cooks in the preparation, cooking, garnishing, and presentation of dishes.
  • Prepare and cook complete meals and specialty items for events, including banquets.
  • Oversee the activities of cooks and other kitchen personnel.
  • Regularly prepare and cook meals, including for special guests or functions.
  • Ensure the preparation of dishes accommodates customers with food allergies or dietary restrictions.
  • Manage the recruitment and hiring process for kitchen staff.
  • Provide training to staff on food preparation, cooking methods, and food safety practices.
Certifications
  • Possession of a Safe Food Handling certificate is required.
Work Environment
  • Fast-paced and dynamic kitchen environment.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Physical demands include handling heavy loads and standing for extended periods.
  • Requires attention to detail and a combination of sitting, standing, and walking.
