About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Sous Chef to join our culinary team at The Algonquin Resort. As a key member of our kitchen staff, you will be responsible for assisting the Executive Chef in the preparation and presentation of our menu items.

Key Responsibilities
  • Food Cost Control: Maintain accurate records of food costs, consumption, and inventory to ensure efficient use of resources.
  • Menu Planning: Collaborate with the Executive Chef to plan and develop new menu items, ensuring they meet our high standards of quality and presentation.
  • Staff Supervision: Supervise and train kitchen staff, including cooks, chefs, and other kitchen workers, to ensure they are meeting our expectations.
  • Inventory Management: Requisition food and kitchen supplies, and arrange for equipment purchases and repairs as needed.
  • Quality Control: Ensure that all food prepared meets our quality standards, and that dishes are presented in a visually appealing manner.
  • Teamwork: Work collaboratively with other members of the culinary team to ensure seamless service and high-quality food.
Requirements
  • Education: Secondary (high) school graduation certificate or equivalent experience.
  • Experience: 5 years or more of experience in a similar role, preferably in a high-volume kitchen environment.
  • Certifications: Safe Food Handling certificate.
Work Environment

The Algonquin Resort is a fast-paced environment that requires attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to work under pressure. You will be required to stand for extended periods, handle heavy loads, and work in a physically demanding environment.
