Hamilton, Ontario, Canada ArcelorMittal Full time

Requisition ID: 30777

Are you interested in working for one of Canada's Top 100 Employers? We are searching for individuals who are committed to excellence and eager to work with cutting-edge technology to help create the materials that will shape the future.

At ArcelorMittal Dofasco, we are integral to North America's advanced manufacturing supply chain, collaborating with leading automotive, energy, packaging, and construction brands to develop lighter, stronger, and more sustainable steel products.

We are pioneering a transformation in the steel industry aimed at significantly reducing greenhouse gas emissions in the near term, with a goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. Our site will be the first integrated steelmaking facility globally to undergo this transformation by 2028. Our global organization is at the forefront of significant decarbonization initiatives in North America and Europe, with our facility playing a crucial role in this strategy.

As Hamilton's largest private sector employer, ArcelorMittal Dofasco employs over 4,500 individuals and ships 4.5 million net tons of high-quality flat carbon steel each year. Our motto, "Our Product is Steel. Our Strength is People.", reflects our belief that our workforce is our greatest asset.

Position Overview:

We are looking for candidates with a background in engineering and technology, along with a passion for advanced manufacturing. The onboarding process for Process Engineering Coordinators emphasizes learning, exploration, and integration with our manufacturing teams. Throughout the initial year, employees will participate in a series of job rotations that provide hands-on experience in Operations, Maintenance, and Technology.

During this journey, you will have the opportunity to shape your career by engaging in daily production and maintenance tasks, managing projects, assisting in troubleshooting, addressing complex challenges, and gaining a comprehensive understanding of our advanced manufacturing operations. These rotations will not only expose you to various aspects of the business but also help you establish relationships with key stakeholders. You will receive both professional and technical mentoring, equipping you with the skills necessary for success.

Role Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will collaborate with a team of engineers, technologists, tradespeople, and manufacturing personnel to enhance process reliability and capability. Responsibilities include:

  • Leading and managing process improvement initiatives while conducting quantitative analyses of process effectiveness using Lean/Six Sigma methodologies.
  • Participating in troubleshooting and resolving process and equipment issues.
  • Evaluating process and product failures through formal Root Cause Analysis and developing corrective actions, controls, and training to mitigate failures.
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure product and process quality as challenges arise.
  • Analyzing process and product performance and providing recommendations for improvement to leadership.
  • Planning and executing improvement projects as part of the annual business planning process.
  • Maintaining FMEA and control plan documentation for manufacturing assets.
  • Developing and tracking Process Health metrics and defining reaction thresholds.
  • Staying informed about new developments in processes, products, equipment, and technologies related to steel manufacturing.
  • Contributing to the development of risk mitigation tools such as FMEA and Control Plans in compliance with industry standards.
  • Conducting layered process audits to ensure adherence to existing processes and identify continuous improvement opportunities.

Qualifications:

  • A 4-year University Degree or a 3-year Engineering Technologist College Diploma.

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Experience in manufacturing or a steel-related industry.
  • General knowledge of manufacturing, maintenance, and equipment.
  • Understanding of sheet steel manufacturing processes.
  • Experience in project management for process or quality projects.
  • Familiarity with World Class Manufacturing (WCM) or Continuous Improvement activities (Lean Manufacturing).
  • Knowledge of formal Root Cause Analysis (RCA).
  • Proficiency in statistical analysis techniques and software tools (Minitab, R, Excel).
  • Understanding of mechanical and chemical failure mechanisms.
  • Mechanical aptitude and a hands-on approach to problem-solving.
  • Knowledge of Process Reliability concepts and practices.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships within a diverse workforce.
  • Ability to influence and lead others.
  • Familiarity with Quality Assurance methodologies.

Work Environment:

This role involves working in both manufacturing plant and office environments as required. Personal safety equipment is mandatory while in the plant, which may expose you to dust, chemicals, temperature variations, noise, and large industrial machinery.

Job Rotation:

In addition to regular responsibilities, employees will participate in a job rotation program with Operations and Maintenance teams during the first year, requiring work on 12-hour continental shifts (days and nights).

Hours of Work:

Normal working hours for this position are during the day, Monday to Friday, with extended hours as necessary to meet project deadlines and shutdowns. ArcelorMittal Dofasco operates 24/7, and occasional travel may be required.

Total Rewards:

  • We offer a competitive total compensation package, including superior pay for superior performance, comprehensive health and wellness benefits, pension plans, vacation, and related programs.
  • Competitive hourly rates and shift premiums.
  • Eligibility for a quarterly bonus based on company performance.
  • Company-paid Defined Contribution Pension Plan with employer contributions.
  • Generous vacation allowances.
  • Group Benefits with minimal employee premiums.

After two years of permanent service, employees will participate in our Profit Sharing program, where all permanent employees share equally in the allocation of profits.

Additional Benefits:

  • Competitive vacation entitlements.
  • Provision of PPE and workwear at no cost.
  • Access to wellness and Employee Assistance Programs.
  • Free access to onsite fitness centers and recreational facilities.

We appreciate all applicants in advance; however, only those selected for further assessment will be contacted.
