Mechanical Systems Compliance Inspector

Position Overview:
Reporting to the Inspections Manager, this role is pivotal in overseeing the inspection of plumbing and HVAC systems in both new and existing structures. The primary objective is to ensure adherence to approved plans, the Ontario Building Code, and relevant municipal regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct thorough inspections and monitor construction and demolition activities to verify compliance with the Ontario Building Code and good construction practices.
- Review and approve the construction of plumbing and mechanical systems for all buildings governed by the Ontario Building Code and associated permit documents.
- Inspect and validate the installation and testing of fire suppression systems and HVAC components of life safety systems.
- Organize inspection workloads and document results meticulously, including the collection of photographs and drafting comprehensive reports in the computerized records management system.
- Collaborate with property owners, contractors, engineers, and other stakeholders regarding construction activities and by-law enforcement.
- Investigate complaints and enforce compliance with various statutes and regulations, including property standards and zoning laws.
- Advise on unsafe working conditions and participate in relevant investigations.
- Inspect fire-damaged or unsafe buildings to assess damage and necessary repairs related to HVAC and plumbing systems.
- Facilitate partial and complete occupancy clearances and prepare evidence for legal proceedings as required.
Qualifications:
- Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent, with an additional year of post-secondary education in Plumbing or Sheet Metal Work, and relevant Provincial Qualifications.
- Comprehensive knowledge of the Ontario Building Code and related standards, with experience in HVAC and plumbing system design and installation.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting construction plans and specifications.
- Familiarity with municipal drainage principles and sewage systems.
- Strong communication skills, both oral and written, with the ability to engage effectively with the public.
- Knowledge of the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations relevant to building construction.
Additional Assets:
- Additional Provincial Qualifications in 'Complex Buildings' and 'On-site Sewage' are advantageous.
- Membership with relevant professional associations is considered an asset.
