Mechanical Systems Compliance Inspector

Position Overview:
Reporting to the Inspections Manager, this role is pivotal in ensuring that both new and existing structures adhere to the approved designs, the Ontario Building Code, and relevant municipal regulations. The incumbent will be tasked with the inspection of plumbing and HVAC systems to guarantee compliance and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct thorough inspections and assessments of construction and demolition activities to ensure alignment with approved plans and applicable codes.
- Review and approve the installation of plumbing and mechanical systems in accordance with the Ontario Building Code and City regulations.
- Inspect fire suppression and HVAC systems to ensure they meet life safety requirements.
- Maintain organized records of inspections, including photographic documentation and detailed reports in the computerized tracking system.
- Collaborate with property owners, contractors, and various stakeholders to provide guidance on construction activities and by-law compliance.
- Investigate complaints regarding code violations and enforce compliance with relevant statutes and regulations.
- Advise on unsafe working conditions and participate in necessary investigations.
- Inspect buildings for occupancy clearances and prepare evidence for legal proceedings when required.
- Respond to public inquiries regarding the Ontario Building Code and related laws.
Qualifications:
- Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent, along with a minimum of one year of post-secondary education in Plumbing or Sheet Metal Work, and relevant qualifications from the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing.
- Provincial qualifications in HVAC and plumbing systems.
- Experience in reading and interpreting construction plans and specifications.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with computerized office environments.
- Strong communication skills, both oral and written, with the ability to engage effectively with the public.
- Knowledge of the Ontario Building Code, municipal bylaws, and safety regulations.
Additional Information:
- A valid Class 'G' Driver's License is required.
- Candidates may be required to lift up to 11 lbs.
