Job Title: Labour Relations Consultant

Job Summary:

The Labour Relations Consultant is responsible for providing expert guidance and consultation to management and employees on labour relations matters. This includes administering and interpreting collective bargaining agreements, providing training and development opportunities, and ensuring compliance with relevant legislation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide consultation and guidance to management on labour relations matters, including performance management, staff discipline, and collective bargaining.
  • Administer and interpret collective bargaining agreements, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation.
  • Develop and deliver training programs on labour relations, including investigations, discipline, grievances, and performance management.
  • Conduct investigations into allegations of employee conduct, including respectful workplace violations, theft, and fraud.
  • Lead grievance hearings and provide support and guidance to management on potential resolutions.
  • Correlate evidence for matters referred to arbitration and assist in those hearings.
  • Provide informed recommendations and expert advice to senior management on labour relations matters.
  • Participate in collective bargaining and maintain accurate and detailed notes on proceedings.
  • Facilitate discussions and mediate disputes between management, employees, and union representatives.

Requirements:

  • Completion of post-secondary diploma or degree in Human Resources Management, Labour Studies, Labour Relations, or related field.
  • A minimum of three years' experience in Human Resources, with a minimum of one year in the labour relations area.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to facilitate meetings and handle sensitive discussions with tact and diplomacy.
  • Working knowledge of applicable Manitoba labour legislation, including the Human Rights Act, Employment Equity, Employment Standards Act, Labour Relations Act, and Liquor, Gaming, and Cannabis Control Act.
  • Knowledge of best practices related to conducting and documenting investigations.
  • Intermediate skills in Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, Outlook, OneDrive, and Teams).
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills, with the ability to exercise sound judgment and prioritize and meet deadlines while maintaining a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Experience in a unionized environment, preferably with multiple unions, and collective agreement interpretation and administration.
  • Must be resilient to deal with highly emotional and confrontational situations.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A Chartered Professional in Human Resource (CPHR) designation.
  • Mediation Certification.
