We collaborate with the University community to support exceptional research and educational initiatives. Our department encompasses various teams, including Operating Accounting & Financial Analysis, Restricted Fund & Ancillary Accounting, Capital Accounting, and Student Revenue & General Accounting.

We provide financial leadership within a decentralized financial management framework, offering guidance, training, and advisory services. Your Opportunity:

The Financial Services Department (FSD) delivers financial expertise to the University community. Our team of accounting professionals focuses on financial reporting and compliance with the University Guide to Financial Management. We support, guide, and train departments on financial matters.

As the Lead Financial Strategist, you will undertake a wide array of responsibilities, including financial reporting, analysis, and management to support the University community. You will collaborate with various business units to address issues and provide insightful guidance.

You will cultivate strong relationships with stakeholders, utilizing your analytical skills to synthesize information, identify trends, and deliver insights that enhance internal processes and decision-making.

Your responsibilities will encompass:

  • Overseeing budgetary financial management, including strategic planning, forecasting, and analysis.
  • Conducting complex financial modeling and analysis, producing detailed statistical reports.
  • Processing financial transactions in accordance with the University’s financial management guidelines.
  • Monitoring, reconciling, and reporting on funding accounts.
  • Evaluating financial processes and recommending improvements.
  • Providing expert advice to senior leadership and various teams within FSD.
  • Planning and managing institutional-level reporting and projects.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree with a Post Graduate Certificate.
  • A minimum of five years of relevant financial experience in accounting, modeling, analysis, and reporting, preferably in a university or similar public sector setting.
  • Hands-on experience in preparing financial statements, including the Statement of Operations and Changes in Net Assets, and Balance Sheet.
  • Proficient in managing fixed asset schedules, asset capitalization & depreciation, budgets, account monitoring, financial reconciliations, forecasts, and analysis.
  • Skilled in developing complex financial models.
  • Experience with databases and business intelligence tools for financial data analysis.
  • Proven ability to conduct financial research and present findings effectively.
  • Demonstrated success in implementing innovative solutions to enhance financial management efficiencies.
  • Strong proficiency in MS Office Suite, particularly MS Excel and Financial Information Systems (FIS).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented with a strong commitment to accuracy.
  • Ability to manage complex projects and prioritize effectively.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multi-stakeholder environment.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and maintain confidentiality.

  • Completion of a recognized accounting program (CMA, CGA, CA).
  • Experience with accounting for ancillary business.
  • Experience with Business Intelligence reporting.
