Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Systems Integrator - Data Science and Visualization Lead to join our team at the City of Toronto. This is a pivotal role within the Data Integration and Access unit, where you will be an integral part of our expanding Data Science and Visualization team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead Complex Data Science and Analytics Projects
    • Apply best practices in data science, statistics, predictive analytics, machine learning, and data visualization to drive business outcomes.
    • Develop creative solutions to complex problems and develop strategies for data science, analytics, and visualization approaches and products.
  • Collaborate with Cross-Functional Teams
    • Work cooperatively and professionally with City staff to gain an in-depth understanding of their individual business subject matter and translate their needs into actionable insights and products.
    • Communicate information in a manner that is understandable to a wide range of individuals.
  • Develop and Implement Data Solutions
    • Design, develop, and implement data solutions that meet client and business requirements.
    • Develop and maintain databases and data warehousing systems, including organizing, compiling, manipulating, analyzing, and summarizing large datasets.
  • Lead and Manage Teams
    • Supervise, motivate, and train assigned staff regarding data gathering, use, analytics, and visualization.
    • Develop and implement strategies for staff development and growth.
  • Stay Up-to-Date with Industry Trends
    • Stay current with industry trends and best practices in data science, analytics, and visualization.
    • Identify and analyze current business processes and practices in the context of evolving information architecture and performance measures.
Requirements
  • Education
    • Post-secondary education in Information/Data Management, Statistics, Computer Science, Economics, Mathematics, Data Science, Applied Research, or a related field.
  • Experience
    • Considerable experience with data formats, including tabular, geospatial, web services, real-time, JSON, and REST APIs.
    • Experience with ETL tools and task orchestration tools such as Airflow, NiFi, FME, or Talend.
    • Experience with public cloud platforms (e.g. AWS, Azure, GCP) and implementing, configuring, and utilizing data analytics and visualization tools.
  • Skills
    • Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills.
    • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
    • Knowledge of business intelligence tools, statistical computing, object-oriented programming, database query languages, and interactive computing.
    • Knowledge of big data technologies such as Apache Spark, Hive, and cluster computing.
