Position Overview

The Senior Analyst in Underwriting plays a crucial role in evaluating, processing, and negotiating the approval of residential mortgage applications. This position supports intermediate underwriters, manages requests, and participates in escalation processes. Utilizing extensive knowledge and expertise in residential mortgage underwriting, the Senior Analyst acts as a consultant for branches, mortgage advisors, and brokers, helping to resolve credit decision appeals while adhering to CIBC's business and credit risk objectives. This role requires independent judgment within established procedures, providing specialized advice on company policies, procedures, and security value assessments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Decision Making: Negotiate, approve or decline applications, and make recommendations within established CIBC guidelines, handling lending limits up to $3,000,000.
  • Risk Assessment: Review and prepare recommendations for applications exceeding authority limits, ensuring thorough evaluation.
  • Analytical Skills: Collect, review, and assess information to support credit applications, aligning with CIBC risk parameters and insurer guidelines.
  • Relationship Management: Manage correspondence and inquiries from internal and external partners, including insurers and appraisers.
  • Agility: Handle high volumes of work efficiently, maintaining quality and due diligence while reviewing various lending products daily.
  • Leadership: Guide junior underwriters, providing coaching, training, and quality assurance, and prepare recommendations for applications above authority limits.
