Role Overview

The Senior Analyst, Underwriting plays a crucial role in the evaluation, processing, and negotiation of residential mortgage approvals. This position supports intermediate underwriters, addresses managerial inquiries, and participates in escalation processes. The role requires extensive knowledge and expertise in residential mortgage underwriting, acting as a consultant for branches, mortgage advisors, and brokers who seek to challenge credit decisions, ensuring resolutions align with CIBC's business and credit risk objectives.

The Senior Analyst operates with a degree of autonomy, providing guidance to junior underwriters and taking on a leadership role in coaching, training, and quality assurance. Additionally, this position prepares and submits recommendations to management for mortgage applications exceeding authorized limits.

Key Responsibilities

  • Decision Making: Assess, negotiate, and either approve or decline applications within established CIBC guidelines, handling applications up to $3,000,000, including residential mortgages and secured/unsecured loans.
  • Risk Assessment: Review and prepare recommendations for applications that exceed authority limits, ensuring comprehensive risk evaluation.
  • Analytical Skills: Collect, analyze, and document information to support credit applications, adhering to CIBC's risk parameters and insurer guidelines.
  • Relationship Management: Maintain effective communication with internal and external partners, including insurers, appraisers, and solicitors.
  • Agility: Manage high volumes of work efficiently to meet tight deadlines while maintaining quality and thoroughness.
  • Leadership: Provide mentorship to junior underwriters, facilitating their development and ensuring quality assurance in underwriting processes.
