Key ResponsibilitiesThe Senior Underwriting Analyst plays a crucial role in evaluating, processing, and negotiating the approval of residential mortgage applications. This position supports complex inquiries from intermediate underwriters, managerial requests, and escalation processes. Utilizing extensive knowledge and expertise in residential mortgage underwriting, the analyst serves as a consultant for branches, mortgage advisors, and brokers, facilitating appeals of credit decisions and negotiating satisfactory resolutions within CIBC's business and credit risk frameworks. The Senior Analyst operates with a high degree of autonomy, providing specialized advice and guidance on company policies, procedures, and security value assessments.
This role involves mentoring junior underwriters and taking on a leadership role in coaching, training, and ensuring quality assurance. Additionally, the analyst prepares and presents recommendations to management for residential mortgage applications exceeding authorized limits.
Success Factors- Effective Decision-Making – Negotiate, approve or decline applications, and make recommendations in accordance with established CIBC processes and guidelines, with an authorized lending limit of up to $3,000,000 for residential mortgages and secured/unsecured applications.
- Risk Assessment Facilitation – Review and prepare recommendations for management or senior underwriters for applications that exceed authority limits.
- Analytical Skills – Collect, review, and analyze information to support each credit application within CIBC's risk parameters and insurer guidelines.
- Relationship Management – Handle correspondence and inquiries from both internal and external business partners, including insurers, appraisers, and solicitors.
- Agility – Manage high volumes of work to meet tight deadlines while maintaining quality and thoroughness. Daily review of various lending products is expected.
- Leadership – Guide junior underwriters, providing coaching, training, and quality assurance. Prepare and present recommendations for applications exceeding authority limits.
