Job Title: Assistant Controller

Job Summary:

Waste Connections of Canada Inc. is a leading non-hazardous waste management company in North America. We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented individual to join our dynamic team as an Assistant Controller. This role will be responsible for supporting the District Controller in daily accounting tasks, including financial statement preparation, general ledger reconciliation, and financial projection analysis.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform monthly financial close functions, including preparation of financial statements and general ledger reconciliations.
  • Reconcile all general ledger accounts and complete monthly financial projection analysis.
  • Prepare monthly narrative analysis of significant financial variances to budget and forecast.
  • Effectively communicate financial information to business counterparts.
  • Plan and participate in the annual financial budget process.
  • Prepare capital purchase requests and implement internal controls.
  • Implement and maintain regular reporting processes to support operations.
  • Coordinate and perform inventory counts.
  • Provide training to non-financial personnel on internal control compliance and accounting procedures.
  • Assist with special projects as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Economics.
  • Enrollment in or plans to enroll in CPA or MBA program.
  • Minimum 3-4 years of accounting experience in a similar role.
  • Intermediate to advanced skills in MS Excel and related accounting business systems.
  • Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines and juggle multiple priorities.
  • Self-starter with the initiative to learn and a great work ethic.
