Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Accountant to join our Shared Services team at Chartwell. As a key member of our finance department, you will provide critical support to our operations and ensure the accuracy and timeliness of our financial reporting.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Financial Reporting: Prepare and submit Ministry of Health reports for Alberta and BC-funded portfolios, ensuring quarterly and annual filings are completed as required.
  2. Budget Reviews: Assist the Accounting Manager with budget reviews and validate funding revenue budget and staffing hours budget for funded portfolios.
  3. Audit Support: Support the annual FIRMS Funding Audit and BCLTC Resident Trust Account Audit by working collaboratively with external auditors to provide necessary financial information and explanations.
  4. Survey Preparation: Prepare and submit the quarterly FIRMS Survey for Alberta-funded portfolios.
  5. Journal Entries: Prepare monthly global journal entries for funding revenues and true-ups, and review for accuracy and completeness.
  6. Special Projects: Conduct analysis on special funding projects as requested.
  7. Expense Review: Review the accounting for non-controllable expenses such as utilities, property taxes, volume rebates, and other such expenses deemed the responsibility of shared services.
  8. Financial Communication: Timely communication of financial results, including variance analysis and reconciliation of accounts under the responsibility of Shared Services.
  9. Quarterly Reviews: Assist with quarterly reviews and annual audits as it relates to Shared Service areas.
  10. Budget Review: Assist the management team with review of property level budgets and forecasts relating to non-controllable expenses.
  11. Consultant Liaison: Provide support to the Director Operations Finance in maintaining relationships with various external consultants.
  12. Communication: Communicate effectively with Senior Management, Operations, Accounting Managers and external third parties including government agencies.
Requirements
  1. Experience: Related industry experience is preferred, with 3-5 years of progressive experience in accounting/finance roles.
  2. Education: A University degree in Business or Finance is required, with a CPA designation (CA, CGA, CMA) or equivalent work experience.
  3. Skills: Strong knowledge of IFRS and Canadian GAAP, extensive experience in critical thinking and analytical skills, advanced computer skills in Excel, Yardi, and Hyperion.
  4. Abilities: Ability to work and multi-task in a fast-paced and high-volume environment while maintaining a high standard of accuracy and attention to detail, strong written and verbal communication skills, self-motivated, creative, and innovative.
