Job Summary:
The Corporate Counsel position at H&R Block Canada's Legal Department involves providing expert legal counsel and guidance in areas such as third-party contracts, privacy compliance, regulatory compliance, employment relations, franchise law, record retention & data governance, and litigation management.
Key Responsibilities:
- Reviewing, drafting, negotiating, and managing contracts to ensure compliance with laws and regulations.
- Developing and implementing privacy policies to protect sensitive information.
- Ensuring compliance with laws and regulations, including those related to employment relations and franchise law.
- Overseeing litigation matters and providing guidance on dispute resolution strategies.
- Collaborating with cross-functional teams to develop and implement business strategies that minimize legal risk.
Requirements:
- A Law degree from a recognized institution.
- A practicing member in good standing with a Canadian Law Society.
- 5-7 years of practice in a business environment, with a focus on in-house counsel or a related field.
- Proven ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment and as part of a team.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and analytical skills.
- Leadership experience within the financial services sector is an asset.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Fluency in French is a preference for this role.
