Calgary, Alberta, Canada CP Full time

CP is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Corporate Legal Counsel to join our growing legal team.

In this role, you will provide comprehensive legal support across various areas of the business, including financing, banking, and corporate operations. You will be responsible for providing sound legal advice, drafting and reviewing contracts, ensuring regulatory compliance, and managing relationships with external counsel.

  • Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct in-depth legal research and provide expert opinions on a range of complex matters related to pensions, financing, and banking transactions.
  • Draft and review a variety of legal documents, including contracts, agreements, and other corporate instruments, ensuring accuracy and compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Assist in the preparation of regulatory filings and ensure adherence to all relevant industry standards and guidelines.
  • Collaborate effectively with internal stakeholders across different departments to provide timely and strategic legal counsel.
  • Manage relationships with external law firms and oversee their performance on assigned matters.
  • Maintain meticulous records and files related to legal matters within the corporate, financing, and banking domains.

Qualifications:

  • Membership in good standing with the Law Society of one or more Canadian provinces.
  • 5-8+ years of proven experience in a top-tier law firm, boutique practice, or in-house legal department.
  • Demonstrated expertise in handling complex transactions and providing successful outcomes for clients.
  • In-depth knowledge of the business and regulatory environment within federally regulated industries.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to effectively convey complex legal concepts to non-legal audiences.
  • Strong organizational and time management abilities, with a proven track record of managing competing priorities effectively.
