ROLE OVERVIEW

  • Conduct thorough reviews and research on new International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), presenting findings to the Senior Director to facilitate implementation alongside internal stakeholders.
  • Lead and mentor team members and external consultants in their accounting policy evaluations.
  • Organize and deliver training sessions for internal clients on pertinent accounting policy topics.
  • Oversee the technical review of PSP's financial statements, ensuring compliance with applicable accounting standards, and collaborate with the Senior Director on proposed enhancements.
  • Manage external financial reporting for the Canada Growth Fund (CGF) and prepare all related documentation.
  • Evaluate complex investment transactions to determine the appropriate accounting treatment, collaborating with the Senior Director to recommend adjustments to preliminary agreements for favorable outcomes.
  • Serve as the in-house authority on PSP and CGF accounting reporting.
  • Address ad hoc inquiries from business units, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of operational needs through stakeholder engagement, aligning these needs with industry practices and financial reporting requirements.
  • Communicate findings to internal clients and senior management regarding the implications of changes in accounting standards, investment transactions, or business unit analyses.
  • Represent the Accounting Policies Group in technical discussions concerning accounting and reporting issues raised by auditors.
  • Design and maintain efficient accounting and reporting processes to optimize team resources.
  • Develop a deep understanding of PSP's and CGF's business operations and investments to identify transactions or events that may impact accounting or reporting.
  • Establish and nurture a network with external peers to facilitate benchmarking of financial statements and to set market conventions.
  • Document accounting issues, analyses, and conclusions through position papers and memos as the primary means of communication.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Extensive knowledge of IFRS, particularly regarding financial instruments and fair value.
  • Demonstrated experience in drafting financial statement notes and external management reports.
  • Ability to quickly comprehend and analyze complex technical information.
  • Proactive in identifying solutions to various accounting challenges.
  • Results-driven with a client-focused approach.
  • Capable of thriving in a fast-paced environment with a high degree of autonomy.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to convey complex accounting concepts to non-technical audiences.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting.
  • Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) or Auditor designation.
  • A minimum of fifteen (15) years of relevant experience in financial accounting for publicly accountable enterprises, with significant exposure to complex accounting issues or equivalent experience with a major audit firm.
  • Experience in researching and documenting accounting issues with references to relevant standards.
  • Bilingual proficiency with excellent English writing and reporting skills, as all communications with senior management are conducted in English.
