The Urgent Response Nurse plays a crucial role within the broader Specialized Services team and collaborates with a specific multi-disciplinary group dedicated to offering direct and indirect mobile crisis intervention and mental health and substance use clinical services. This ensures that individuals facing significant mental health challenges and/or substance use issues receive timely, responsive, and evidence-based treatment and support across a comprehensive range of services.
The Urgent Response Nurse is responsible for crisis intervention, assessment, suicide prevention, short-term treatment planning, and, when necessary, rapid response for clients who may experience serious functional impairments across various life domains, including physical health and personal, family, financial, occupational, and social aspects.
The Urgent Response Nurse serves as a primary clinician for limited durations, employing a variety of specialized treatment modalities and therapies for individuals, groups, and their families.
Work Schedule: 08:00 to 19:09 Days (Rotating)

As of April 1, 2024, the new wage is: $59.52/hour

- Graduation from an accredited nursing program. A minimum of three years of recent relevant experience, including a combination of Acute Care psychiatric nursing and experience providing treatment services to individuals with mental health and/or concurrent disorders, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Current practicing registration with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
- Valid driver's license.
- Successful initial RCMP Security Screen and subsequent Enhanced Security Clearance.
- Assessment and Intervention – Proven ability to conduct initial and ongoing client assessments and deliver nursing care through appropriate technical and therapeutic interventions.
- Communication – Strong ability to effectively communicate with clients, families, the public, medical staff, and interdisciplinary team members through verbal, written, and digital means.
- Critical Thinking – Ability to synthesize and evaluate relevant data from multiple sources to solve problems effectively.
- Human Caring and Relationship-Centered Practice – Capacity to promote client-focused care that reflects sensitivity to diverse cultures and preferences, advocating for clients and addressing social justice concerns.
- Teaching – Ability to convey essential health care information to clients and others.
- Management – Skill in managing time and resources, fostering cooperation among team members, and collaborating across disciplines.
