About the Role

Covenant House Vancouver is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Director to join our Board of Directors. As a key member of our governance structure, you will play a vital role in providing strategic direction and vision for the organization.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide strategic direction to Covenant House Vancouver, ensuring alignment with our mission and goals.
  • Oversee the performance of the Chief Executive Officer, ensuring effective leadership and management.
  • Oversee financial and risk management, ensuring the organization's financial stability and security.
  • Provide counsel and input to the strategic direction of Covenant House Vancouver, leveraging your expertise and experience.
  • Influence at the individual and community level to positively contribute to advancing the reputation and brand of Covenant House Vancouver.
  • Leverage your knowledge, expertise, connections, networks, and resources to develop collective action to fully achieve Covenant House Vancouver's mission and goals.
  • Review and maintain Covenant House Vancouver's governance and operating policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with best practices.
  • Model, support, and promote a culture of high performance, ethical behavior, accountability, transparency, and open communication.
  • Act solely in the best interest of Covenant House Vancouver, in full compliance with the conflict-of-interest policy.
Requirements
  • Previous governance board experience is an asset.
  • Be familiar with, and support, the organization's mission, policies, and programs – and fully understand the organization's financial statements.
  • Be able to participate in quarterly 3-hour meetings of the Board of Directors, and an annual 5-6 hour retreat.
  • Be accessible for personal contact between board meetings, via email and phone.
  • Remain informed of new developments in the governance and regulatory environment.
