Role Overview

The Intervenor Specialist plays a vital role in supporting individuals with combined hearing and vision loss. This position encompasses a variety of responsibilities, including serving as a communicator and sighted guide, facilitating meaningful interactions between individuals and their environments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver personalized support to Deafblind individuals in both home and community settings.
  • Assist individuals in accessing information, acquiring skills, and making informed choices while promoting effective communication.
  • Provide sighted guidance and relevant environmental insights.
  • Collaborate with Deafblind individuals to assess their support needs.
  • Encourage active participation in community activities, fostering connections through recreation, education, and self-advocacy.
Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A solid understanding of intervention theories and principles.
  • Knowledge of Deafblindness, Deaf/Deafblind culture, and associated health concerns across various life stages.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Self-motivation and adaptability, with the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Initiative and the capability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Preferred Experience

We welcome candidates who have:

  • A diploma or degree in human services or relevant experience working with Deafblind individuals.
  • A willingness to learn and utilize alternative communication methods (e.g., Two-Hand Manual, American Sign Language) and an interest in Braille.
  • Experience engaging with diverse populations across various socio-economic and cultural backgrounds.
  • A professional demeanor and the ability to establish rapport with stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with assistive or accessible technology.
  • The ability to travel and work flexible hours.
