Role OverviewThe Intervenor Specialist plays a crucial role in supporting individuals with dual sensory loss. This position encompasses a variety of responsibilities, primarily focused on facilitating communication and providing guidance to enhance the individual's interaction with their surroundings.
Key Responsibilities- Deliver personalized support to Deafblind individuals in both domestic and community settings.
- Assist individuals in accessing information, enabling them to make informed choices and facilitating effective communication.
- Provide environmental insights and act as a sighted guide.
- Collaborate with Deafblind individuals to assess their support needs.
- Encourage active participation in community activities, fostering social connections through recreation, education, and self-advocacy.
The ideal candidate will possess:
- A solid understanding of intervention theories and principles.
- Knowledge of Deafblindness and associated cultural and health-related issues.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Self-motivation and adaptability, with the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
- Initiative and the capability to work independently with minimal oversight.
We are particularly interested in candidates who have:
- A diploma or degree in human services or related experience with Deafblind individuals.
- A willingness to learn various communication methods, including American Sign Language and Braille.
- Experience working with diverse populations across different socio-economic and cultural backgrounds.
- A professional demeanor and the ability to establish rapport with stakeholders.
- Familiarity with assistive technologies.
- The flexibility to travel and work varied hours.
