Key Responsibilities

  • Provide guidance and assistance to young individuals in setting and reaching their personal objectives.
  • Instruct and motivate youth in essential life skills including communication, emotional health, problem-solving, household management, and financial literacy.
  • Oversee and engage in activities that foster social, emotional, and physical growth, enhancing self-esteem and personal achievements.
  • Ensure the fulfillment of basic needs for individuals, encompassing personal care, life skills, and social/occupational development.
  • Manage daily chores within the residence or program facility, which may involve cleaning, laundry, or aiding youth in completing these tasks.
  • Transport children and youth to educational institutions, medical appointments, recreational events, and community resources.
  • Organize, support, and/or facilitate culturally relevant programs, services, workshops, and outings, promoting youth engagement in their cultural heritage.
  • Participate in the creation, execution, and assessment of individualized service plans and program-specific policies and procedures.

Ideal Qualifications

  • A Certificate, Diploma, or Degree in Child and Youth Work, Social Work, Psychology, Human Services, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in youth programming, group homes, supported independent living, daycare, or out-of-school care.
  • Preference will be given to First Nations, Metis, and Indigenous applicants in accordance with the CHRC Aboriginal Employment Policy.
  • A valid Class 5 Driver's License with a clean driving record and personal car insurance (minimum 2 million in third-party liability).
  • Ability to manage crisis situations effectively to ensure the safety of youth in the program.
  • Certification in First Aid/CPR.
  • Training in Suicide Intervention, Self-Harm, Crisis Intervention, and Medication Administration.
  • Awareness of Aboriginal culture and diversity training.
  • Capacity to adhere to the policies and procedures of Spirit of Our Youth Homes Inc. and comply with the Alberta Child, Youth and Family Enhancement Act.
  • Familiarity with the standards set by the Canadian Accreditation Council of Human Services.
  • Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
