Position Overview
The Youth Empowerment and Support Services (YESS) is seeking a dedicated Full-Time Program Supervisor to oversee operations at the Youth Support Centre (YSC).
About YESS
YESS is a non-profit organization committed to assisting youth who are navigating challenging circumstances. Our Youth Support Centre is designed to offer immediate and accessible 24/7 support and personalized wrap-around services for young individuals.
Our mission focuses on preventing youth homelessness by equipping young people with essential resources to stabilize their living situations, enhance their overall wellbeing, develop life skills, engage with the community, and prevent recidivism into homelessness.
Key Responsibilities
The Program Supervisor will play a crucial role in leading the YSC team, which includes Team Leads, Youth Workers, and Intake Staff. Responsibilities include:
- Overseeing a diverse team, fostering team cohesion through effective communication, resource allocation, performance evaluations, training, and continuous support.
- Assisting in the recruitment, selection, and onboarding of new staff members.
- Maintaining comprehensive client records, including assessments, treatment plans, and progress documentation.
- Ensuring a safe and supportive environment that adheres to Trauma-Informed Care principles.
- Providing guidance and feedback on staff documentation, monthly reports, and critical incident records.
- Ensuring compliance with the Freedom of Information and Privacy Act regarding client information.
- Facilitating staff training in safety protocols, conducting regular building inspections, and overseeing monthly fire drills in accordance with agency policies.
- Offering support and consultation to the scheduling and after-hours On-Call team as needed.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess:
- Strong leadership and team management capabilities.
- Exceptional interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Organizational skills with a keen attention to detail.
- A proven ability to cultivate positive relationships.
- Independence in work with minimal supervision.
- Creative problem-solving abilities.
- Flexibility and adaptability in ambiguous situations.
- Experience in providing support through a trauma-informed lens.
The candidate will ensure a safe, clean, and secure environment for youth, demonstrating a harm reduction approach and proficiency in suicide intervention and safety planning. Additionally, the candidate will engage with community support networks.
What You Bring
- A Certificate, Degree, or Diploma in Child & Youth Care or a related Human Services field.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience working directly with high-risk and at-risk youth.
- 3-5 years of experience in a leadership role within a high-risk demographic in a shelter environment.
- 1-2 years of experience in strategic planning.
- 1-3 years of experience in training, supporting, and mentoring staff.
- Proficiency in MS Office applications and ETO.
- Understanding of the values and practices of Aboriginal and diverse cultural groups.
- CYCAA Child and Youth Care certification is an asset.
Prerequisites
- Training in first aid and mental health first aid.
- Non-violent crisis intervention training.
- Training in suicide intervention and harm reduction.
- Trauma-Informed Care training.
- Person-Centered Planning training.
- Clear police clearance and Child and Youth Intervention checks, both obtained recently.
- A valid class 5 driver's license and driver's abstract.
- Proof of vehicle insurance with at least $1 million third-party liability.
