Position Overview

The Youth Empowerment and Support Services (YESS) is seeking a dedicated Full-Time Program Supervisor to oversee operations at the Youth Support Centre (YSC).

About Us

YESS is a non-profit organization committed to assisting youth facing challenging circumstances. Our Youth Support Centre offers immediate and accessible 24/7 sleep support along with personalized wrap-around services for young individuals.

We collaborate within a comprehensive care network aimed at preventing youth homelessness by equipping young people with essential resources to stabilize their housing, enhance their well-being, develop life skills, engage with the community, and prevent re-entry into homelessness.

Key Responsibilities

The Program Supervisor will lead the YSC team, which includes Team Leads, Youth Workers, and Intake Staff. Responsibilities include:

  • Supervising a diverse team, fostering team effectiveness through effective communication, resource allocation, performance evaluations, training, and ongoing support.
  • Participating in the recruitment, selection, and onboarding of new staff members.
  • Maintaining comprehensive client records, including assessments, treatment plans, and progress documentation.
  • Ensuring a safe and supportive Trauma-Informed environment within the Centre.
  • Providing guidance and feedback on staff documentation, monthly reports, and critical incident documentation.
  • Ensuring compliance with the Freedom of Information and Privacy Act regarding client information access and disclosure.
  • Training staff in safety protocols, conducting regular building inspections, and facilitating monthly fire drills in accordance with agency policies.
  • Offering support and consultation to the scheduling and after-hours On-Call team as needed.

You will ensure a safe, clean, and secure environment for youth, equipped with a harm reduction approach and skills in suicide intervention and safety planning. Building community support connections will also be part of your role.

What You Bring

  • A Certificate, Degree, or Diploma in Child & Youth Care or a related Human Services field.
  • A minimum of 5+ years of experience working directly with high-risk and at-risk youth.
  • A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a leadership role within a high-risk demographic in a shelter environment.
  • 1-2 years of experience in strategic planning.
  • 1-3 years of experience in training, supporting, and coaching staff.
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications (Excel, Outlook, Word) and ETO.
  • Understanding of the values and practices of Aboriginal and diverse cultural groups.
  • CYCAA Child and Youth Care certification is an asset.

Prerequisites

  • Training in first aid and mental health first aid.
  • Non-violent crisis intervention training.
  • Training in suicide intervention and harm reduction.
  • Trauma-Informed Care Training.
  • Person-Centered Planning Training.
  • Clear police clearance and Child and Youth Intervention checks, both obtained recently.
  • Valid class 5 driver's license and driver's abstract.
  • Proof of vehicle insurance (minimum $1 million third-party liability).
